Conservative News

Iain StewartHello,

I’m Iain Stewart, your new Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes South.

At the General Election on 6th May 2010 I was returned as your representative in Westminster.  I am grateful to the voters in Milton Keynes South for their support and faith in me and I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of representing them and this great city in Westminster.

I shall honour the commitments I made during my election campaign and look forward to working with the people of Milton Keynes South, my colleagues on Milton Keynes Council and in Westminster to make Milton Keynes and Britain a better place to live and work.

On this site I shall shortly publish details of the arrangements of the meeting times and places for my regular surgeries but in the meantime please use the contact methods published here to get in touch.

Together we shall make a difference and my work on that starts right now!

Thank you.

City MP Welcomes Clampdown On Rogue Clampers

MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart has expressed his pleasure at the government’s announcement to abolish wheel clamping on private land in England and Wales. Lynne Featherstone MP, Home Office Minister, announced that the legislation will be included in the Freedom Bill which could be in place as early as January 2011.

Mr Stewart said: “I am glad that this decision has been made. Rogue clampers have been a big problem in the Bletchley area of my constituency. I have only just written to a Birmingham-based operator regarding an incident involving a constituent near Stephenson House. People often don’t know that they are parking on private land as the signs are not visible and the release fees requested by these companies are exorbitant. It doesn’t help either that their staff are often aggressive towards members of the public.”

He added: “I accept that owners of private land need to protect their property but I think ticketing is a much better option as this falls under the supervision of the Transport Ministry”.

Have Your Say On Elderly Care Services

A local MP is urging residents of Milton Keynes to have their say in a consultation on the development of older people’s services in the city.

Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, is glad that Milton Keynes Council started a consultation on 6th August about the development of older people’s services in the city especially as it relates to dementia care.

He said: “I have always argued for the end-users of services to be involved in the design and delivery of the services they receive. I really would like to encourage everyone, especially charities and local groups involved in caring for older people to make their voices heard loudly in this consultation. They should visit the consultation page of the Council website to register their views”.
